Dr. Garfinkle-Crowell is a psychiatrist in private practice who treats children, adolescents and adults.

She studied English at Amherst College and entered medical school via the Humanities and Medicine program at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. She is Founding Director of the Academy for Medicine and the Humanities at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Since then, she has focused on her private practice and writing about young women, mental health, and culture for popular audiences.

She lives with her family in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

Her book, Girlhood, Translated: Therapy Speak, Identity, and Girls, is forthcoming from Crown, Fall 2026.
